Statement of the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hüseyin Müftüoğlu, in Response to a Question Regarding the Negotiations on Cyprus Held in Switzerland

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 22.11.2016

QA-43, 22 November 2016

The intensive negotiations held under the auspices of the UN between the Turkish Cypriot side and the Greek Cypriot side in Mont Pèlerin, Switzerland on 20-21 November 2016 have unfortunately produced no result despite all well-intended efforts of the Turkish Cypriot side. We believe that a valuable opportunity has been missed at this critical stage of the process.

We will have a detailed evaluation of the situation with the Turkish Cypriot side.

It will be helpful that the date of the 5-party conference to be held with the participation of Guarantors is set without further delay with a view for the negotiations to continue.

Turkey maintains its determination for a viable settlement of the Cyprus issue.
