No: 241, 21 July 2017, Press Release Regarding The Situation At Al-Haram Al-Sharif

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 21.07.2017

We consider with deep regret and concern the fact that today, in Jerusalem, once more the Friday prayers could not be performed in Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and two lives were lost and tens of people were wounded in the clashes.

It is a humanitarian and legal obligation for Israel to respect the sanctity and the historical status of Al-Haram Al-Sharif in East Jerusalem which it keeps under occupation since 1967.

Israel should heed the calls made by the international community for the immediate lifting of all restrictions, including the metal detectors, imposed on the entry of Muslims to Al-Haram Al-Sharif, one of Islam’s holiest sites of worship, and restoring the status quo as soon as possible. This is essential for the restoration of calm.
